Virginia Chamber of Commerce issues first profits-over-people report cards

The moment Virginians were waiting for arrived when the Virginia Chamber of Commerce[1], that bastion of commerce over all other concerns, released its legislative report cards[2], raising Virginia Sen. Walter A. Stosch (R-Henrico) to the highest pillars of commerce friendliness.

Stosch, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee  was named “Legislator of the Year” while being handed down from on high an A-plus rating by the VA Chamber of Commerce. A tireless worker for Virginia’s business elite, indeed.

The purpose of the legislative report cards, according to the chamber, is to “move Virginia forward.”
Unsurprisingly for an organization that puts profits over people, the chamber dealt out all of its five D’s to Democrats in the House of Delegates. Democrats also had the privilege of receiving all of the chamber’s C’s.

The turn-coat, Sen. Charles Colgan (D-Prince William), was the only Democrat who managed an A.

What would be interesting to see now is a legislative report card that scores legislators on how well they protect the welfare of all Virginians, not simply Virginia’s businesses. The “grades” would undoubtedly be different than those handed out by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
