At the Scott County Democratic Party yearly fall dinner on
Saturday, outgoing Senator Jim Webb and 9th District U.S. House
candidate Anthony Flaccavento[1]
spoke to over 70 individuals at the Scott County Park and Golf Course.
Sen. Webb and Anthony Flaccavento spoke about the upcoming
November elections and how the Democratic Party could make considerable gains
in the Congress. Sen. Webb commented, “With respect to the election, I like a
lot of people was not optimistic a few months ago, but I am optimistic now. … I
think if we get the message out and communicate to people how important this
election is … we will do a lot better than people think when Election Day
comes.”[2]
Mr. Flaccavento also spoke about these themes in addition to
speaking about building an economy “that works from the bottom up.” At the
dinner, Flaccavento elaborated, “We can build a bottom up economy that works
for people, that creates real wealth … But we have to invest in that, and we
have to make that the primary focus of our economic policy. This bottom up,
real wealth creation, and not this fictitious Wall Street wealth.”[3]
While there is nothing “fictitious” or inherently bad about
Wall Street wealth, Flaccavento’s point remains the same: America needs wealth
created through infrastructure projects, education, and worker investment, not
just the wealth created by a burgeoning stock market.
Mr. Flaccavento’s message is also one that resonates with
Virginians in the southwest of the state where Flaccavento is running for
Congress, and where wealth has been scarce relative to the rest of the
commonwealth.[4]
If Flaccavento takes the 9th District in the November
elections, it will be a huge victory for the Democratic Party and southwest
Virginians seeking a new direction in their lives.
Flaccavento has a sincere and practical vision for a better
future, a rare quality in today’s political atmosphere.
