U.S. Senator Mark Warner slams Romney/Ryan business plan in opinion piece

In a recent opinion piece from U.S. Senator Mark Warner from Virginia, the senator systematically points out the economic disadvantages of the “Romney/Plan” for the United States.

Warner, himself a former successful businessman who founded and managed Columbia Capital[1], knows a thing or two about successful business plans.

In the piece, Warner comments, “I spent 20 years in business…where I had an opportunity to evaluate hundreds of business plans before making investment decisions. That’s how I know that any investor who honestly examines the Romney/Ryan business plan for America will clearly see it does not boost our nation’s competitive edge.”[2]

Why not? Warner concludes, “The Romney/Ryan business plan for America fails to make the necessary investments in any of these three fundamental areas [workforce investment, plant and equipment investment, long-term business plans].”[3]

What the Romney campaign hasn’t failed to do is mislead the American public about President Obama’s role in putting America’s economy back on track[4] and Americans back to work. Of course, in the world of politics, all is fair, but the Romney campaign has appeared to take this adage to a whole new abominable level.

What’s more, instead of focusing on policies that will actually help Americans, the Romney campaign has contented itself with released policies that are big on words but short on viable solutions. In other words, it’s the same playbook used by George W. Bush during his time as president.

The Republican Party and the Romney campaign in particular have made it clear that rules are only so good as they allow for greater returns on power. That is, ethics and decency have no place anymore among a majority of Republican Party members.

We should all care because just as the GOP has no concern for rules, they also don’t seem to care that their policies are bringing the greatest country in human history to the brink of a devastating downfall, all the while enriching a select few.

Few Americans share this vision but it is one embodied by Mitt Romney.
