Ken Cuccinelli’s campaign takes aim at Terry McAuliffe’s ‘snow tweet’ from FL before snow storm

Before the so-called “snowquester” hit pockets of Virginia with snow, wind, and rain, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Terry McAuliffe, ‘tweeted’ the following: “Please stay safe in the snowstorm tonight and tomorrow. For more info on preparedness, visit @VDEM’s website: vaemergency.gov/readyvirginia.”[1]

McAuliffe’s Republican rival for the governorship in Virginia, Ken Cuccinelli, saw this tweet as a political opportunity and his campaign spokeswoman said the following in response: “Terry McAuliffe is so out of touch with Virginia, that only he would tweet his concerns about a massive snowstorm in the Commonwealth, while palling around with his millionaire friends in Florida.”[2] Speaking of out of touch, how “out of touch” is it to use the word “palling” in a political statement?

Not only is Cuccinelli’s campaign turning a thoughtful and concerned ‘tweet’ into a blight on McAuliffe’s character, but since when has a conservative political candidate been opposed to “palling around with” millionaire friends? Does Cuccinelli dislike capitalism?!! Cuccinelli must be a closet socialist!

So when Virginians find out that Cuccinelli has been ‘bro-ing’ around with millionaires himself, that will be okay, right?

The bottom line is that a lot of politicians seem to be out of touch with many folks in this country. The sequester is a perfect example.

How many lives will the sequester effect if it continues to slash away at America’s budget indiscriminately? How many Americans are suffering already from the thought of losing so much of what they worked so hard to achieve? And for what, a few political points back home just so these political figures can say, “See, we shaved the budget.” I have every faith that Cuccinelli would be every bit a part of this group.

Hopefully the McAuliffe campaign will take the high-road and not respond in kind to Cuccinelli’s elitist charge[3], at least not in the same low-brow way that Cuccinelli’s team responded. Maybe Virginians still want this kind of political campaign but I really don’t think they do. I believe Virginians want good policies, a balance between government activism and individual liberty. If so, Cuccinelli’s campaign isn’t off to a good start.
